Why this is the half nobody builds
Parcel tracking has competitors. Warranty admin has almost none, because it's unglamorous and the payoff is years away. It's also the part that saves you actual money — a washing machine repair inside warranty is the difference between $0 and $400.
The record is built at purchase, not at breakage
Every warranty tool that asks you to upload receipts fails, because nobody files paperwork for a problem they don't have yet. The only version that works is one where the record already exists by the time you need it — which means capturing it automatically from the confirmation email, at the moment of purchase.
Terms are frozen at the date of sale
Manufacturers revise warranty terms. The version that governs your claim is the one in force when you bought. Storing the terms as published on your purchase date is a small detail that occasionally matters enormously.
Expired doesn't mean unprotected
Note the MacBook: warranty expired, but the card still says consumer law may apply. In the UK you may have up to six years to bring a claim; EU law provides a minimum two-year guarantee against the seller; Australian law has no fixed cut-off at all. A vault that goes quiet the day the manufacturer's warranty lapses is giving up early — the full picture is in our warranty records guide.
The serial number problem
Serial plates live on the back of the machine, under the sofa, inside the door. Once installed, they're unreachable. So the extension prompts you to photograph it in the delivery window, when the box is still open and the thing is still in the middle of the room — the four seconds that make a future claim possible.
